Three cheers to you Beth...you have been through many challenges, but sound optimistic...good for you girl!

I recently made my first pincushion and used poly stuffing I had used to make a stuffed animal. The stuffing works great. My one big error was I made the pin cushion too short and the pins go through and stick out the bottom. I'll make another, but it will be taller.

There are a ton of you tube video's on how to make...have fun picking one that works for you. Of course we want to see a picture once complete :-)

Oh, oh! So sorry for all the upheaval this past year. I know I have remarked many times about the flood we had last Aug. it is a good feeling that construction is finished. But I can't find some of my quilting tools either. That is very disheartening. I need those rulers.

can't help with the pincushion though.

PS I just read your post about how you got that pincushion. Very touching story. I hope you find it somewhere in a safe place.

Sorry for all you've been through, Beth. And, sorry for all your losses, including your fav pincushion! I'm not a guru pincushion person as I just made a tube of fabric and filled it with rice. I think fine sand is also used. I wonder how a combination of things would work.......

Beth, I'm happy that things are finally settling down for you. What a horrible experience to have your home flooded.

Something is niggling at the back of my mind that there might be a certain pin cushion filler that actually sharpens the needles as they are inserted. Does that sound familiar to anyone else? Sharon, the search guru, could probably find it for you.

Beth, I hope life calms down for you for a while! I'm sorry about the hurricane damage, and for the loss of your mother in law.

Store-bought pin cushions often have a little strawberry attached filled with emery. I don't know if you can buy it retail or not.

Here are some options although there are a few I'd certainly not use! Grass clippings? for real? Steel wool is certainly a good one for sharpening and one I hadn't thought of, but is a good one, is hair from your hair brush. I'm thinking a combination would work best, but that's just me. Oh thank you all for such great support!! I've taken a little time to search and search ole Google, you know! All the input you gave prompted me to look a bit harder and LOOK what I found!!!! I'm pretty excited, too!! http://amaidenhairfern.blogspot.com/2010/06/pin-cushion.html  I saved it on my pinterest and, of course, looked at aaaalllllll the pincushions out there! Sooo many choices, but I will probably try to replicate my old faithful; I know the size and all worked wonderfully well and will have a familiar feel, I hope!

Larri, thanks for your especially kind words. We loved those little kids so much - have contact with one of them again! (He is a granddaddy!!! and still thanks us sooo often for loving him the way we do!). A pincushion sew along sounds fun, tho I'm still hesitant to commit to much of anything til we finish with the house! (ALmost there!).

I'm excited that I'm getting excited about sewing again!!! It's been a long year!
