Mannington Restoration Laminate reviews
Has anyone had Mannington Restoration Laminate with Spill Shield installed in your home? If so, please tell me how you like it-pros and cons. I am considering having it installed in 1200 sq ft of my home. I'm so ready to get rid of carpet! TIA, Kitty

Original Author7 years agoWe haven't installed it yet but have definitely decided on the Mannington Restoration laminate. We are hoping to "age in place" and have several doorways to widen to 36 inches since our house was built in the mid seventies, and only the entrance doors are 36 inches wide.
Our other problem is my husband likes Chestnut Hill Natural, and I like Historic Oak Ash in the Mannington Restoration laminate. We'll have to decide as we work on doorway widening.
If you are considering it, you can get full plank samples from efloors.com for .99 cents each. I got a couple of samples of each color I was looking for, clicked them together and did my own moisture, scratch and dent test on it. It held up really well to each.

Hi i am curious if you like the product. I read so many bad reviews and i am scared to pupurchase

I am also wondering if you've installed and how you like it. I was going to purchase but am apphrensive after reading reviews.

Yes, I have the same question! I love the Restoration Sawmill Hickory, and I don't know what to do!

Original Author7 years agoSorry, I'm just now finding your questions. No, we have not installed the Mannington Restoration because like all of you, we kept reading bad reviews.
I am now looking at Quick-Step Nature Tek 12 mm laminate. I think it has a 24 hour surface water warranty and info says made in US. Today I found a dealer with samples of some of the colors I like. In my opinion, Quick-Step needs to work on their marketing to get the product more available for customers to see it. I won't buy something I haven't seen in a large sample that I can look at in my home. Lighting and furniture can make a huge difference in the way it will look. I also want to research reviews on the product. The few I have seen were good except for one that says it separated about an eighth of an inch at some of the end joints which could be an installation problem.
Good luck to all who are still looking for a good water resistant laminate. I think we need it.

Hope its not too late...At the end of December 2013 we bought 3 rooms and a hallway worth of Mannington laminate, it was beautiful. It was installed in January 2014. Since then we have had little chips appearing near the edges of the boards, little turned up areas near the edges of the boards, some scratches and most recently buckling at a particular spot near one couch. Definitely SO disappointed and getting in touch with them currently. I hope they send a technician; if not I have a load of photos I can send. I am hoping for a full replacement or refund...

We had Mannsfield Restoration installed in most of our main floor. Chose it because of the beauty and for Spill Shield. Had it installed prior to occupancy and during move-in, placed a mini-fridge in our great room. Awoke next morning to find a 3' puddle! Installer warned us the flooring would bow and swell. We were sick but, after sopping up all of the water, we put fans and a demidifier on the floor - and waited.
That was 8 days ago and it still looks as beautiful as the day it was installed.
It looks great, "walks" great!
We're putting felt "sliders" and on all our furniture. Trying to follow all the suggestions and hope that in ten years it looks just just as good!
Follow up at four months, we are happy with the floor. No bowing or cupping, even where we had the mini-fridge defrost and leave a 3' puddle! Only downside is that when I called Mannington to inquire as best way to put a hole in the floor, the agent I spoke to insisted that we should not do it. I tried to explain it surrounds our fireplace and we want a gas insert installed. She wouldn't budge. Fortunately, I found several Youtube videos in how to do it.

We installed Mannington Aduro Max in stucco in two phases, to allow remodeling of the later rooms before installing the flooring. When we went to pull the trigger on the second quote, we were told Mannington discontinued the flooring. We were told when we purchased it was a new line and Mannington was a great company. Now we're left with two floors with Aduro Max laminate and no idea what to do with the other three. We couldn't be more disappointed with Mannington Aduro. I don't recommend Mannington at all.

@Robert Siefker we've been looking, and really like the sawmill hickory in the restoration collection. One lady posted on another thread her new puppy's urine caused bubbling. We have cats and dogs. No peeing issues, but quite often hairballs. Wondering if you have any pets? Or how is your floor still doing?

It is doing great. Eight months now and no problems. No pets.
We use felt pads on all furniture.

Hi, Thinking about installing almost 1,200 sq. ft. in every room in our home. Of the Mannington Restorations laminate with Spillshield Plus- newer technology in just past year, hence the "Plus"), Anthology series in the colour "Parchment". It's absolutely gorgeous. Some of you stated here you read bad reviews of the original Mannington Restorations laminate. Just wondering on what websites you read these bad reviews. I can hardly find any real customer reviews at all. Are there any reviews of this newest, waterproof laminate? The newest Restorations line is rated to be installed in full bathrooms and kitchens, as it's touted as "waterproof".
I am also wondering if anyone has installed this new (late 2020 onwards) upgraded Restorations laminatewith the Spillshield Plus technology. It is now considered "waterproof". All reviews, recommendations on this flooring, etc. much appreciated. Thanks. 🙂 - 4 years ago
@ Robert Siefker: Is your Restorations laminate the Sillshield technology or Spillshield Plus waterproof technology. Even though it seems you purchased your Restorations laminate after Mannington manufactured it, you may have purchased older instock flooring with just the Spillshield and not the Spillshield Plus, so hence the question. I am curious to know which one you purchased, and if you are getting any scratches, bubbling, swelling, chipped edges (from things dropping on edge of floors), etc. Thanks.

I had settled (finally) on the Anthology collection from Mannington until I read the reviews on pet urine - so I called. I can confirm that they are not willing to say that the floors are warrantied for that, and as a family with dogs - as they grow older or when we get a new puppy, that just won't work. So sad because they really are beautiful floors!

@Stefanie W. we ended up going with this laminate: https://www.paramountflooring.com/products/timbrcore/ It's been installed for a couple months now, and we love it. It also takes a beating. We have a cat who throws up on it multiple times a week (she has IBD, we're working with a vet on meds and food and such), and lots of dogs running and rough-housing on it, including a Saint Bernard. We went with a premium pad under it, and it's very quiet (you can hear dog nails of course, but no hollow or weird echo sounds) and it feels really nice underfoot. Unlike some of the vinyl samples I got, walking barefoot across it leaves no footprints. I dropped a good size can on it too last night and almost had a heart attack, but no marks there. You might wnat to look into it!

I truly understand. I looked for well over a year, and had so many vinyl and laminate samples & planks, I could have started a flooring business 😆

Not looking forward to going back to the flooring store with my news on Mannington...!

Stephanie, when u spoke with mannington did they mean that none of their products can withstand pet urine? My 8 yo lab has genetic glaucoma & will be completely blind within a year. I will also pass on mannington restoration if that is true for all mannington products.
I also have boxes a samples. Engineered hw to pvl to hard core plus all associated health concerns.
Thx!
Hi Linda - I would call them if I were you, just to hear from them yourself...but she told me that pet urine is different than water and basically said "I understand your concern" when I said "so I should worry if my pet pees on the floor?". The Mannington Anthology collection is really pretty, so I was bummed. Revwood Plus is DEFINITELY a better way to go, but I'm having more trouble finding one that I like the color/style. It's also Floor Score Certified, so safe. Currently waiting on a few boxes to see which one we like best!

Do not use the Mannington Spillshield product. This product is not water resistant nor water proof for 72 minutes let alone 72 hours. The company does not honor their warranty. This is a fraud. A class action lawsuit sb brought against Mannington. This stuff is garbage!

We put the Mannington Restoration Anthology in the colour Parchment in our main bathroom to test it out prior to installing it in the rest of our home. This stuff is some of the most expensive laminate on the market, and the most beautiful and authentic looking we've come across. It was perfectly installed, and every cut end was sealed with their recommended Mannington sealing pen.. We also put silicone around all of the perimeter of the flooring, as recommended for the installation in a bathroom. The laminate flooring is swelling in several places at the grooves between the planks, especially in front of the bathtub. We are very careful not to have excessive water on the floor. Water has sat for no more than minutes on any area of the floor.
The worst areas are around the bottom perimeter of our toilet, around the bottom of the bathtub, where the flooring meets the edge of the bathtub, and a couple of areas in front of our sinks. This stuff is absolutely not waterproof! I would recommend it only for bedrooms, never for kitchens, bathrooms, entrances, etc.
I thought this swelling may occur when we initially installed it because any areas where water droplets would get on the grooves, between the planks of the flooring, I would wipe up them up and see that the grooved area, that had the water droplets on it, was darker than the grooved areas that had no water droplets in it. It was darker even after immediately wiping up the droplets. This means that the seams are absorbing some moisture, and the moisture is penetrating in the grooved areas between the planks.
The flooring is gorgeous, but the waterproof is claim is an absolute scam! I am so thankful that we tested out the laminate in our bathroom first, prior to putting it throughout our home. We are a large family and do not have the finances to replace no flooring because it failed. It is also more time consuming to install than traditional laminates because it locks on both the short and long side of the plank. I can assure you again, this was properly installed. This was NOT an installation issue. Take a sample pice of their flooring and let water sit on it a time, especially making sure you put water on the groove. No water is penetrating at the top or underside...the grooved portion of the laminate is its weakness. You will see after wiping up the water on your sample that the grooved area where the water sat is darker than the grooved areas where there was no water sitting. This means water is penetrating that groove, to one degree or another. If it wasn't, there would be no change in the shade of the groove.
We are in Canada, and the problem that we face with looking for new flooring is multifaceted. We know that many vinyl planks are TRULY waterproof, but there are issues. Most of the vinyl plank flooring is not very scratch resistant. I know that AC4 or AC5 laminate flooring is the most scratch-resistant, and no vinyl plank is as scratch resistant as a commercial grade laminate.
I have scratched-tested many brands of SPC and other vinyl plank flooring, (key, knife, gravel, quarter), with less than stellar results. The best we found was the Goodfellow SPC Dubai plank flooring in Sunset. Nice colouration, Embossed Registered Finish, and very good scratch resistance. Problem is in the locking system. It is very shallow, and if your floors aren't almost perfectly level everywhere, the locking system comes undone, where the short sides of the planks meet. We tried this flooring in our bathroom prior to the Mannington Restorations. We really liked the look (light and medium warm brown tones with a touch of grey). The problem was that even after a brand new subfloor was installed perfectly level, within a couple of month, two of the ends separated in 2 areas of the bathroom (in front of sinks). The only fix is to take it all up and reinstall it, but after some research, I have found that this disengagement of the locking system is an issue with this brand of vinyl planks, as well as many others. Apparently every kind of SPC waterproof flooring we've looked at has this same shallow locking system that will come undone with shifting of the house. We live in a mobile home, and it's on concrete blocks. Our floors are a bit undeveloped hear and there, but only marginally. This issue is exacerbated by the fact our home shifts a bit more than one on a foundation, but reviews of many brands of vinyl planks have shown this issue isn't limited to our lack of a foundation. Pretty much all others having this same issue actually have their home on a foundation.
We looked at the Mannington series of vinyl planks because they lock on both ends (long and short side of the planks), so it's more difficult for the planks to separate once installed. The problem is that they weren't nearly as scratch-resistant as the Goodfellow SPC, which held up extremely well for our family of 7, with only 1 bathroom. We only had 1 scratch on that floor in the entire year it was installed. Also, the Mannington Vinyl planks aren't embossed, and look very fake. I thought their SPC flooring would be Embossed Registered, but to our disappointment, they are not. The Mannington SPC is also 40 % more expensive than the Goodfellow Dubai!
The final problem is that there are supposed to be great SPC vinyl planks, with authentic colouration, Embossed Registered finishes, very good scratch resistance, and better locking systems than Goodfellow SPC Dubai and other SPC flooring, but they aren't available in Canada. I can't remember the brands off hand, but I have searched for SPC planks with better locking systems, and they seem to be in the US and Europe.
In summary, we need a waterproof, very scratch resistant, Registered Embossed finish floor with a deep, solid locking system that won't come undone if you look at it wrong. I have no idea where we can find a vinyl flooring to meet our needs, and that is also very pleasing to the eyes. We are looking for a lighter flooring, with browns and grays, that are similar to the Mannington Restorations Anthology series in Parchment. I've yet to find a flooring that meets those needs and desires in 2 years of looking. Thought we had it in the Goodfellow Dubai. Nope. Poor locking system. Then, we thought the same regarding Mannington Restorations Anthology. Nope. NOT waterproof! Back to the drawing board!
We have young children, so scratch resistance is a must! Another issue is that most of the vinyl planks do not look nearly as authentic as the Mannington Restoration Anthology series. I've yet to find ANY vinyl plank/SPC waterproof flooring that looks nearly as authentic and beautiful as the Mannington Anthology. :-(
Hope this post helps someone. Take care, and happy floor hunting! - 4 years ago
@Jesus. Mary and Joseph check out this laminate if you prefer a laminate: https://www.paramountflooring.com/products/timbrcore/bandsaw-oak/ (they have other TimrCORE colors with the Aqua Advantage as well. It's German-made, good specs, AC 4 and it's been holding up great. We installed it almost 5 months ago. There is standing water on it daily around the dog bowl mats. We have sloppy drinkers, and I'll wipe up when I see it, but sometimes a few hours can definitely go by. Snow melts on it, it stands up super well to an active Saint Bernard who is over all the time (OMG, the drool spots when she leaves haha), and besides our two rowdy dogs who love to chase and play, we've had up to 7 dogs at once running and playing on it. No scratches anywhere. I have also dropped a couple things on it in the kitchen (once was a large can) but no dents. It cleans easily, and I'm very happy with it.

I did want to add we also silicone around all of the perimeter of the flooring in the kitchen as well. We installed this in our whole house, but not the bathroom.

Hi Brenda - I saw your posts on another discussion with all the pictures, and it's nice! You're obviously really happy with it. :o)
Did you use a flooring store to install, or just an individual after purchasing it online? Unfortunately this product doesn't seem to be available anywhere near here. I'm a little concerned that if the install has issues, I'll be in trouble! - 4 years ago
Whatever you do, do not under any circumstances buy Mannington Restoration product. Any liquid on the floor, even for 5 minutes will result in the floor cupping. Their SpillSheild warranty is a fraud and the Mannington will not stand behind their product! They will stall and stall until you go away. Defrauded consumers should sue Mannington in a class action lawsuit. This company continues to push this fraudulent warranty!

Do all of you that had water damage have flooring with Spill shield or Spill shield Plus? I'm wondering if the new product is waterproof. Thanks.
Product is NOT waterproof. not even close. my floor has swelled every single place that i have had water. i called the company before installing to make sure it was suitable for bathrooms etc and explained that i was concerned about swelling from water and pets. they said i should have no concern at all as loong as there was not a long time leak, etc. they said anything wiped up within a reasonable amount of time woyld not affect the flooring. somehow in two spots where my puppy peed it IMMEDIATELY swelled. all i did was go to grab paper towels!!!! also it chips very easily. Giant waste of money!!! i spent thousands of dollars on this flooring and its an absolute joke!

I ordered Honey Haven with SpillShield Plus. The boxes that came only say SpillShield—no ”Plus.” Did I get old stock? How can I tell? There is no date on the label.

Does anyone have a luxury vinyl match color for mannington Parchment? I had mannington floors but they are not good for spills and a kitchen. As beautiful as it is its not practical for kitchens or pets. Thank you

@jecrensh Did you go ahead and install the Honey Haven flooring? I'm interested in it, too, but with some of these poor reviews I'm uncertain. Please share your experience, thanks!

Has anyone had any success in holding Mannington responsible for their Spill Shield warranty for the failure of their product to resist water damage?

Brenda, I was wondering if you could share a photo of your floor by paramount?

Absolutely stay away from Manning Restorations Waterproof laminate. Our Manning Restorations Waterproof laminate in the colour "Anthology" has continued to extensively deteriorate in our bathroom after 3 years of installation. It is swelling everywhere and it is chipped in about 13 places, chipping even in places where it wasn't swollen. The beveled edges are the weak points for both water seeping into the core of the planks, as well as the laminate literally chipping off of the planks. As beautiful as this flooring is, it is literally garbage! We have 15 year old laminate flooring in the rest of our home and even though that is swollen in a few places, there is almost no chipping, and in comparison to the bathroom Mannington laminate, it has swollen far less in 15 years than the Mannington has swollen in 3 years. That being said, the Mannington is in installed in our bathroom, but it is a somewhat fair comparison because our older laminate throughout our home is also installed in our kitchen and front hallway, where there is tremendous water infiltration. I honestly cannot believe how poorly these Mannington Restoration "Waterproof" floors are made. The top portion of the laminate chips off at the edges and corners, and then the lower core of MDF is exposed, and then any tiny bit of water in that area makes it swell and deteriorate further. DO NOT take the chance and install this in your home! We are so happy that we utilized our bathroom as the test space for these floors. Otherwise, we would be out $7,000 or more and having to replace them throughout our home. So disgusted and disappointed. They should be sued over and over again for stating a product is "waterproof" when it absolutely isn't. Very deceptive company. Very disappointed.

I work at a flooring store (which you'd think would mean it's easy to pick flooring for your own home) and I am currently in the process of updating our floors/cabinetry. I have LOVED Mannington Restoration - Parchment since we got the display in 2020. Problem is, we don't sell a lot of laminate being in the MidWest LVP is still king.
@Jesus. Mary and Joseph do you have any pictures of your bathroom flooring that went to hell? I ordered a box to see the product from our sales rep and I put water on the top overnight at the store to test it. None of the water seeped through but the beveled edges seemed to soak up the water like other reviews have mentioned.
I LOVE this color - and cannot find anything like it. That's why I keep coming back to it. - last year
Beware of Mannington! We had our laminate floors installed a couple of years ago. We purchased the Hillside Hickory Ember and loved them... at first. After a few months we started noticing a crackling sound when walking on them. It kinda sounds like we're walking on rice crispy cereal. It's all over the house. However, it doesn't always happen in the same exact spot. We purchased the floors through S&G Carpet. They had a guy come out and take a look and he said he never had anything like this happen. They then had two installers come out to open up the floors in the living room to make sure they were installed properly. They were. Then an inspector came out and said that there was definitely an issue but no one was able to pinpoint why we are hearing the rice crispy sounds. Mannington had an "independent" inspector come out. Mannington found that they are not covering a replacement. They don't hold up to their warranties. Luckily S&G does and they have offered to replace the floors.
