replacement basement windows

We are replacing rotted wood non-standard size 1950 basement garden-level windows. We live in VT, so insulation and moisture are important factors. We are interested in (double) gliders.

Although I know vinyl can have good insulating/water/durability characteristics, I'd really prefer vinyl clad wood. Based on the small window size (20.25 x 33.5 rough opening), I understand that neither Anderson 400s nor Marvins are possible, which means -- based on the companies we seem to have access to locally -- we may be stuck with vinyl.

As far as I can find through two smaller local companies, and then also Lowes and Home Depot -- we have two window options to consider: Simonten (ProFinish Contractor) and Jeld-Wen (V4500). I cannot find a store with these windows in stock; no one will get one in stock (even in a standard size) without selling it to me. Am I to believe that I have to make a decision sight-unseen? The online pictures are horrible (you can't see just how messy/cheap-looking the vinyl welds are) and obviously can't convey how they operate and feel. Jeld-Wen gets trashed online for poor quality, but I find less about Simonten. Is it any better?

Should I keep searching for other suppliers/companies?
