bathroom niche and accent trim piece

Hi all,

I'm looking for ideas for a trim piece for my bathroom niche and also accent stripe. I haven't found anything that isn't overly bulky looking. You can't really see from the first photo but there is about a 1/2 cm gap- the carrera protrudes a bit further out than the glass. Any suggestions?

I am not a pro but CBU has manufacture specs on line about how to space the screws and what type of fasteners can be used. Also taping and such will be in manufacture guide.

Also CBU, although water resistant, is not waterproof. It absorbs water and it will remain stable but just as a sponge will not fall apart after water exposure a wet sponge left on a table will ruin the top. Wood studs can wick water from wet CBU so it is imperative to either put poly between the studs and CBU or put a waterproof barrier on top of the CBU before tiling.

The pros above can offer more details and recommend their favorite waterproofing products and systems, far better than I, if you are open to their comments. They were looking out for you not being abrasive. They do not profit by answering your queries so their advise is truly altruistic.

Re-Focus 100% of your energy on the tearout of that glass in the niche. You are not yet ready for tile, you first need to prep and waterproof properly. Starting with CBU MFG specs..

Aside from the very fine professional installation advice you’re getting here, how about using only the Carrara marble and NO accent color? Look at photos online and you’ll see so many bathrooms that let the marble take center stage. Why lock yourself into a color or style like an accent strip, that you may tire of or will look dated at some point? Carrara is classic by itself.

The tile may be "installed professionally" but what you are showing in your picture as the substrate and prep is not "being installed professionally", it is completely wrong is what the pro's above are trying to tell you............................

The commenst are abrasive due to your answers sounding as if everything is ok. You have to acknowledge that the ros advice is correct. Instead you defended your tile setter, by insisting that the tile was "being installed professionally" when the work done already has shown that he is not a professional.

Even if installed professionally and perfectly an accent stripe and accent niche are going to look dated.

Think twice.

Accent your bathroom with things that aren't permanent. Art, towels, do-dads or whatever you can easily change.

K Fou, perhaps we should clarify our comments. I am not a pro. I have observed many, many posters asking about tiling in their shower only to be told by the pros that the waterproofing and preparation they see under the tile is not appropriate and is going to lead to problems. You did ask about tile and I’m sure people will weigh in to help. However would you be willing to to tell us if the shower you are showing us is completed and ready to tile or if your contractor is still working on it? We see so many leaking showers in the posts and although it might feel abrasive please know that the pros are trying to help so that when you do choose your tile you shower lasts and remains beautiful for years to come.
