I think you brilliant people could come up with a good solution for my inability to coordinate colors.

See photos of current entry way. It is a dark hole. The lighting isn't bright enough, probably due to high vaulted ceiling and only one small chandelier for lighting.

Maybe sconces to help? Due to budget, we can't change the brown tile floor. Chandelier on high vaulted ceiling is simply not bright enough.

Problems - lighting, wall color, ugly carpet, and (possibly) coordination with living room colors.

The most urgent problem is the carpet which is contributing to severe allergies in spite of a HEPA vacuum and frequent cleaning. It is the only carpeted area in our home. Our son had a severe asthma attack, his worst in years. Allergist says get rid of carpets.

So the green carpet which came with the house has to go. .

I have pried up a bit of the stairway carpet to discover that there may be wood there.If we luck out, it is decent wood and can be restored.

We are open to painting or replacing the rails, doorways, etc. just a out anything goes. Dark brown stair rails do match railing on a balcony over the living room.

We inherited art which we'd like to put in the hallway. Unfortunately, it has major touches of deep blue, almost navy, and white. No place else to put it. Family painted it.

By some miracle, can we coordinate the blue with our living room or does it matter? Could the entry be its own thing? Do we need to change living room colors to incorporate blue?

I'm showing the exterior door detail, carved trees, which came with the house to give an idea of what visitors see before the entry hall. It needs a good polishing (if anyone knows if this door is stock or custom I would love that info).. I always wondered about that.

Photo 2: living room off hallway. Accent wall in entrance hall currently ugly green. Art has to go there. Other 3 walls soft neutral with gold undertone (looks yellow in photos but isn't )

Photo 4: ugly green old shag carpet on stairs. Railings are dark brown. There are 2 doors in entry hall which are dark brown ( one leads to guest bathroom, the other to master bedroom.) Happy to change doors. Sconces could go on either side if them.

Anything to lighten and improve the space?
