How wide should the border be?

I made this d9p from some brightly colored squares that were given to me. They were so bright and cheerful, I just had to make a quilt of them. This arrangement of blocks was not the plan, but what worked out when I made some mistakes while squaring up the 1/4 blocks (the charms were not exactly 5"). I'm going to add a 2" finished white border that matches the size of the white in the quilt. I want to add another border.

How wide should it be? (I'm not trying to add size, but some more zing - like it needs it!) It seems like they need a resting place, or as my cousin would say, "It stops the motion".

Bev, you're right. It would have made a great baby quilt. However, I think my sister will claim it for her granddaughter. It's lap quilt size.

I'm so pleased with it. The layout didn't go according to plan, but it came out almost exactly the size I planned. It was only 1/4 inch off on one side. So, my skills are improving.

Audition some of your fabric by placing it under the quilt with difference widths visible at the sides.

Very pretty. I love all the bright colors. That would be a very pretty baby quilt.

If you don't really want to add more size, you can still add your white border then bind it with a darker color to "stop/rest" your eyes. By the way - very cute!

So bright and cheerful. I agree a narrow white border and solid color binding in one of the brights would work.

Bright and beautiful! I really like your quilt. I’d try a white border the same width as your white squares and then a bright border the width of your bright squares. But do as Glassquilt suggests and audition the borders first to be sure ithey please you. Then a bright binding. Good job, Bkay.
