I wish I understood this dilemma...

I'm assuming that the original windows filled the whole space?

The only difference I see in those 2 pictures is the dentil molding under the soffit.

Aha! I think I got it! The OP is talking about putting trim in the panel below the window. She has trim on 3 sides in the first photo, and trim on 4 sides on the second photo.

Well, until she comes back, we can only speculate as to the final outcome desired...
