Bedroom Area Rug Struggle

We recently installed hardwood floors in our home, including the bedroom. I would like to have a softer rug under my feet when I get out of bed, but I also don't want an area rug under the bed, as it makes dusting/cleaning more difficult. One of the reasons we went with hardwood vs carpet in the bedroom was to eliminate more of the dust bunnies. We have a king bed, and if I wanted an area rug to extend on each side of the bed and the end, I would need an 8x10, which would cover most of my hardwood floor on the width of my room. I don't want to do this because I would no longer be able to adequately clean under the bed and it seems crazy to cover up almost all of our flooring. Is it totally out of style to have a smaller area rug (ie., 3x5) on each side of the bed, and a 4x6 at the foot? Smaller rugs would allow me to remove them and clean the floor underneath. If I put in 3 rugs, should they be the same pattern, or different rugs? Any ideas/opinions would be appreciated.
