The chair blocking the fireplace looks awkward. I would put a pair of chairs by the windows with a small table between them. The sofa you pick should be on a slightly smaller scale, the length is OK is just seems too "over stuffed" for the scale of the room.

@Jamie the current sofa is indeed overstuffed.The current items will eventually go once i find the right pieces

A large sectional sofa has three serious drawbacks:

Limit furniture placement;

No one actually likes sitting for an extended period of time in a seat with no arms … a couple slouching/lying on it, yes, but not guests sitting with people on both sides of you also without arm rests.

If any one part of a large sectional sofa gets worn or stained -- ruined -- most if not all of your seating is ruined. Replacing it, especially quickly, can be challenging, especially for someone on a budget.

A lesser problem -- all that same color in the room … blah. Edit to add: of course you can offset that problem by adding color elsewhere.

I love my sectional. In some spaces, such as above they work, including my own. I dont think the pictures I posted look ~BLAH

but yes sure you could do a couch and two chairs facing the fireplace, I would start there. but the way you have it now seems strangely formal, yet out of place if that makes sense?

The chair blocking the fireplace doesn’t make sense, I like the comment above that suggested two chairs with a table by the window! Are the stools at the kitchen counter ever used? You could push a sofa back more if they weren’t there.

Also it looks like you are trying to keep all your furniture on the area rug, this is adding to the crowded feel, take the back legs of all the seats a few inches off the rug into the wood floors!

I also like the rug under the sofa you posted, thinking the one you have right now is too bold and also shrinking the room. I wouldn't do the armless chairs, they tend to look and feel like dining chairs when you sit in them. I also wouldnt go with the entire matched set, I think your space a round ottoman or coffee table.

@Claire, yes the bar stools are a common spot for my household to sit so looking at keeping them. Im chnging the furniture just ordered the couch nd sofa tht i showed above.
@RL the suggestion on two chairs by the window,its. struggle getting a rug that fits the spce such tht it doesn't overlap the tiles by the fireplce. is it ok of the two chairs are not on the carpet? wish i knew how i could do mock to better explain myself

Should the two chairs by the window be on the carpet or its fine if they are not.

Fine to have 2 chairs off rug. The eventual window treatment will tie that seating area together. If drapes, hang them half way between ceiling and top of window trim, and no lower. Will you do 2 panels or 3?

@Beverly,this placement you hve shown blocks the view of the fireplace from entrance in my space.Hving the chairs further back towards to the window solves the dilemma. Thts why i qas conflicted about all pieces being on furniture or not

If you want to be able to see the TV and fireplace, try a layout which will work better. Since you cannot move your couch far back, why not try just angling your chair which is near the fireplace a little so that it does not block the fireplace?

The couch i ordered is here...now the spce by the fireplace looks lonely and am at a loss of what piecesbto add here. Should i flip the arrangement and hve the chair by the window?

Where did your area rug go?

Can you return the sofa for a 3-seat version? Coffee table should be at seat-top height or 1-2" below it. Should be 2/3 the sofa's length. End tables should be 1" above or below sofa arm's height. When a lamp is added the top of it should reach 58-64" above the floor. Minimum size rug should be 2' longer than the sofa and slip under the front 1/3 of it and the chair. Add art no wider than the firebox over the mantel. Frame the photos and hang them on their own wall.

I think a rug and curtains with something other than table and lamp alone.

Somehow I think your couch should be facing the fireplace, with two chairs facing the TV. I believe you can still watch TV from your couch also. Corner fireplaces are so hard to decorate around I think. If you get a longer console for your TV, I hope it is lower for comfortable viewing. Is there any way to lower your mantle on your fireplace? Would look better and more in proportion. And one large piece of colorful artwork up there. When you get your curtains up and new rug, I think you will be pleased with your room.

erinsean-we plan to redo the fireplace but not just yet. Yes,the console will definitely be lower than thw current one. Do these pieces fit here? Hve had them waiting for a spot not so sure.

Then I would place the sofa in front of the window perpendicular to the FP. Move the chair so it faces the FP, creating an "L" with the two seating pieces. You may want to put a swivel base under the TV so it can be adjusted. Both pieces of art are a bit underscale. Try something like these sconces flanking one of them. Search for African sconces to get something that picks up your theme. Consider using a tribal rug.

You need a wood-tone console for the TV that compliments your floor, that has glass doors to conceal cable boxes and DVD players but still be able to work them through the door. The big problem with yours is that it’s too deep, you could go longer or higher along the wall but pick something much more shallow.

Did you try the angled look? Just curious if it made sense or worked. I think you should wall mount the tv, with a swivel. I'm a bit torn about your style so I'm going to call it modern eclectic. Thinking about a wall mounted console unit too..... trying to keep as much space as we can here.

RL Relocation i tried the angling and it just looked off. unless i didn't understand how to do it. i had the sofa angled facing fireplace then th two chairs by the window angled facing tv.

I think Deco meant to place the couch perpendicular to the fireplace instead of facing it.

Is there any orange in the rug? It looks like there might be but I’m not sure... I’d stick to only colours in the rug going forward for things like chairs and throw pillows :) PS, I like the new rug with the new sofa!!

looks good! Now before worrying about the art, you really need to address the giant elephant of a TV and its STAND. and also the coffee table. Look how small that coffee table looks near that monster of a tv area. lol.

I would remove that mantel/shelf altogether, and install a mantel surround or something a little larger in scale and placed lower. the art is a bit too small. it may have a better chance somewhere else.

RL Relocation-still looking for a tv stand and coffee table. For coffee table is wood ok or really doesn't matter. For the mantle....redoing it right now is not quite feasible but before the year endfor sure. I appreciate feedback

cnt seem to find a tv stnd that fits....any suggestions with links. for the mantle,plan i to get it fixed before end of year so I will jsut have to work around and with it.

Do you have enough room to move the couch where the chair is and then the chair where the couch is. That way the couch faces both TV and fireplace without excluding your two conversation chairs by the window. Then you can angle the chair in a way that suits the room. The couch vs the barstools still seems crowded. I have a smallish living room with few layout options. I can appreciate your challenge.
