They're very tough plants, provided they get heat, sunshine and not too much water. I've never had any with wax coatings on them but assume removing the wax would be good advice. With mine I've always left them to dry off at least a few days, but sometimes a few weeks. Never in the sun if left for a longer time. If they're in a humid place they will sprout roots. If in soil it needs to be fast draining, not wet but just damp. These are plants that seem to do better with neglect rather than with micromanagement.

Your cutting has already gone through the callus forming stage.

Peel off the wax. Dip the cut end in rooting hormone (either gel or dip end in water then rooting powder).

You have several options for the next step. A popular method is bag rooting. A variation on bag rooting is the same process but using bottom half of a clear plastic bottle. You can google for these or youtube.
