My builder uses Houzz Pro to plan the timeline and give detailed estimates and daily updates with photos of progress, and provide invoices at pre-agreed key points in the build. This made the whole experience much more efficient and stress-free.

Basement apartment lighting replacement

The previous owner installed fluorescent lights, the ones with pairs of 4' tubes, when he finished the walkout basement into a 2 bedroom apartment. We want to replace them with something that sheds light on dark corners, looks less like a cubicle filled office and fits in with a dropped acoustical tile ceiling.

Is there a source for learning how many, and what type of lighting to plan?

This will be a slow project because we only have about $100/month in the budget for improvements. Thus far we have purchased 2 ceiling fans w/light kits, one for a bedroom, the other for the kitchen area.

The family room area is 31'x11'






Old ceiling tiles have been removed for plumbing repairs and to install whole house A/C with heat pump. I'd prefer to get new lighting in before we close up the ceiling again.

    Look into LED rather than halogen. A good lighting store should be able to guide you in the right direction.
