How much is fair?

I have asked the super in my building to install a few items and I have no idea of how much smaller scale projects run. He will be (1) installing a stand alone water cooler - hooking it up to the kitchen sink, running the water line to the unit and putting in the filters. (2) Stacking the washer and dryer, connecting the dryer to the gas line, hook up needs to be routed 20 feet, and installing 2 lower cabinets to cover piping in laundry room. I will be paying for all equipment and cabinets myself so this is for his time/labor only. PS, we are located in New York City area. Estimates?

I would expect a minimum trip charge plus $75-$150 an hour for labor plus materials, if necessary for anyone working on my personal home in San Diego (which is also a very high cost of living area). Sometimes there are no minimum trip charges but I would ask for a quote before he starts doing any work so you have an idea of what to expect. If it seems unreasonable to you then maybe get a second (or third) opinion.

In New York City, if you get this done for under 3K, you're doing well.

I also live in NYC and the super can not touch the gas line. I know supers will do just about anything for a nice tip but .......That requires a licensed plumber with experience with gas. If he were just reinstalling a new dryer without extending the line maybe he could do it but not extending the line. I am positive you also need a permit to move a gas line or extend it and 20 feet is a long distance.
