If that area below those is rot, you need to remove those tips to try to save. From the pic, it looks like I'd make them about a foot. So hard to tell from here though.

Is it rot or sunburn? Did you put it in direct sun after root pruning?

If it is definitely rot, I would make 3 separate cuttings of the 3 branches.

thank you guys. I had put it just askew from some grow lights so i'm pretty sure it wasn't sunburn. I did eventually try to take three cuttings. Following directions I found on other forum posts I tried to cut until I saw no brown whatsoever. The result was two 4 inch pieces and one 6in piece. The entire rest of the plant had brown in it and lots of empty rotted areas. I feel so bad that I let it go so long. I've seen this guy shrivel before when dehydrated but I should have known when I felt a little squish in one of the stems.. I'm still trying to root the 6in piece against all odds. Thanks for the responses.

Ok thanks! Im currently letting them dry. Once of them is sitting in pure perlite to be sure. After a week I was thinking about checking fo the callous and then using the bag method, which I read can be better for smaller cuttings, but I've never done it. Thoughts on best rooting techniques? I still haven't ever successfully rooted tho I've only tried on two cuttings so far..

The bag idea is a great one for these. I've not done it before. There's a youtube or two on it and if you do a search you can find instructions and ideas right here. You are super determined this time! it's daunting but I'm thinking at least one will work. Post a picture when you've got it in the bag!

You were right about the rot! Definitely don't give up hope. I am trying to root 2 tiny tip pieces of a Divine I bought by mail that arrived with a collapsed stem. They are much smaller than yours. I am trying the bag method for the first time. I used electrical tape to close the baggies. So far so good.

this is awesome. thanks for the pics! can I ask how much water you put in the soil? and is that just a mixture of potting soil and perlite? I had gotten some coir because I had read it has less chance for rot, but I'm open to hearing all ideas at this point.

Glad they are helpful. I did not have any coir and I always use potting soil mixed with a lot of perlite for rooting plumeria, so I kept to that. I opened a new bag of potting soil and that had all the moisture needed. I did not add any water at all. I read this tip about usung a newly opened bag of soil somewhere. It works because I can see the droplets of moisture in my baggies. Another tip I read was to keep the ziplock of the baggie sealed and cut one of the perpendicular edges off, and open the baggie to plant by that cut edge. This way the baggie will fall off when you remove the tape, without disturbing any roots.
