Melrose is a sweet frying pepper. Its only draw back is its small size. Its early, very productive and excellent flavor as a frying pepper. One of the best frying peppers I have grown altho the larger types are more versatile. Your seed supplier may not have been careful with seed selection.

I ordered some and they look like that but they are HOT. Crazy hot.

Ditto on Farmerdill's comments. I've grown Melrose, and it was a very sweet pepper when ripe. What was the source of the seeds (or plants)? It sounds like your plants are either the result of crossing, or were mislabeled. There are hot peppers very similar in appearance to Melrose.

I had the same experience with Jimmy Nardello which is supposed to be sweet, but my seeds gave me hot peppers - they came from a swap. I guess they cross easily!

I just got some Melrose! Will try them next year. Too late now.

Melrose is very sweet especially when red.

What I have is 10x hotter then some REALLY hot japs I got a few years ago. gggrrr. No response from hellhotpepper.com

I did NOT know that is where I was ordering from I got it on ebay I think and it was Melrose pepper and says Melrose on package.

This outfit sells a Melrose Hot, which is a variety they created. Supposedly identical to Melrose in physical appearance but HOT. hellhotpeppers.com/product/melrose-hot/

Yes I checked that is where I got it from! I got it at eBay I believe and just Saw Melrose and ordered it. That is my fault but I do not think they should’ve named an extremely hot pepper the exact same name as a sweet pepper just because they look-alike!

Another example of why eBay is far from the best place to buy seeds.
