Hey community,

I recently purchased a new home and the kitchen has an island cooktop. The cooktop is somewhat dated and has a pop-up downdraft ventilation. There is a skylight over the cooktop and no way to insert hooded ventilation. I want to upgrade to a new cooktop, e.g. thermador, jenn-air,o r viking, etc.

I'm noticing that the many of the newer models (5-burner cookers) are deeper than than my current cooktop and would probably require removing the ventilation if I purchased a newer one.

Is it worth purchasing a new cooktop, hood, and hiring a general contractor to install (which would probably include cutting out granite) to upgrade OR should I purchase a cooktop without any ventilation and open up my windows anytime I cook anything with high heat.
