Decorator help!

We converted our garage to a great room. Since moving the electrical box is quite expensive, we left it on the wall. Any suggestions on what to cover the box with? I had originally thought about hanging a tapestry but I can't find one that works with the modern farmhouse theme. Maybe a mirror? Notice the box goes above the window height which limits what would look good. Any ideas?

You can build a box-like frame around it, and then paint that the same color as the walls.

Check Home Goods, Wayfair or Target for tapestry.

I don't think the box is unsightly, and when you have more things in the room to look at I think it would hardly register except as a dark shape. And if that bothers you, yes, you cold paint it the same colour as the wall.

Very nice room! I bet y'all are enjoying your new space. Love the wall color.

Just a thought...Before you invest in covering it, you might want to check local codes. Some counties don't allow electrical panels to be covered. They usually want them left in plain sight without anything in front of them for quick shut-down access in case of emergency.

If you're modern farmhouse-y, find an Etsy quilter who can create a small, narrow quilt in a great modern design that can be slipped over a hinged curtain rod . If you do that, move the chair over, so the hanging looks like a painting.

A tall plant, full at the top, will go perfectly with the pool in the background.

You could also add drapes hung high with panels from both windows on each side pulled over "the box".

Mine is in a bedroom, which probably makes it easier to cover. I have a tall canvas painting hanging over it, that goes well in the room.

Add 3 flat woven trays over "the box".

Make sure they're wide enough to cover L to R

Put the top one even with the top of "the box"

Leave just one or two inches between trays.

Balance the length by extending the baskets down below "the box"

Long subway art. Perhaps on of those "this Family......." or Swimming pool rules". what ever floats your boat.

I was thinking of something close to leelee's suggestion with drapes.

Not necessarily....I think if you go with something long enough (the same or a bit less measurement as you have from the crown molding, to the baseboard). It will be fine..

I like the idea of hanging something soft like a quilt or macrame or?? An artsy patchwork quilt table runner might be a good size..

Perhaps an antique door, propped against the wall there?

It is usually against the law to cover an electric box. When the firefighters arrive they cannot put water on your burning house until they turn off the electricity!!! It must be easy to find, even in a smoky room. Window treatments can help. You might try inside mounted fiber shades and a cornice or faux roman shade above. That will draw the eye to the more interesting colors/patterns.

Where do people get this crazy ideas about electrical panels and fires. Firefighters will most certainly start fighting a fire without ever entering the house or turning off the power. Many are able to shut the power off at the street on the pole that feeds that house. The power company is also dispatched at the same time.

My 3 panels are not covered, but a firefighter would risk his life trying to find them in a large house during an active fire.

I would do a long skinny mirror or a floor to almost ceiling vintage poster like this — https://goo.gl/images/mNypeK

I recently saw a painting with hinges on one side that covered a firebox.

Drapes. Hang them just above the level of the top of the box.

You might consider an antique Chinese scroll. We have one of a hawk sitting on a tree branch which is quite beautiful, and one place you can find them is e-bay. They are very long; we actually shortened ours. However, I like the idea of drapes. Your room would benefit from that addition, along with a large, beautiful rug.

Act One Designs, what would you do about drapes on the left side of window that's to the right of the french doors?
