rob had us rolling on the floor with his trip from lakeside hosta home .. rain from tenn to MI ... with no brakes and the entire lakeside collection .. i dont recall now.. why it was so funny ... but it was ...

i have never visited him in fenton ... i would not show up.. without an appointmanet ... and probably only carry cash ... lol.. sometimes thats to only way to not spend excessively ... lol

maybe you could have him mail order the plants to your house.. rotflmbo ... whats it a whole 10 miles ...

Rob is a great guy. He sells through facebook, and will ship, but I suspect he would be willing to show you his gardens. Be prepared to be overwhelmed--he currently has over 3000 hostas, and there will be many that are not familiar to any but the most avid collectors. Rob also knows more about a whole lot of hostas than most people, and is always willing to share his knowledge. He ships very nice divisions, often doubles and triples, always in immaculate condition, and he is HVX savvy.

His gardens will be a great place to see all of the rarer of the Lakeside hostas, and plenty of other rarities as well. He also hybridizes, and has produced some very nice new hostas.

I have a real soft spot for Rob. We have been email friends for a number of years, and at one point I mentioned a quite rare hosta that I wanted for my garden. It was not commercially available, and I couldn't find a collector who had it. Rob tracked down the hybridizer, who was known for not letting anyone into his garden, drove several hundred miles to see the guy, talked his way into the garden, convinced the hybridizer to sell him some of the plant, and then sent part of it to me. Every single time I walk by that hosta, I think warm thoughts for Rob.

When you visit Rob, be sure to buy Lakeside Paisley Print if you don't already have it, this one is absolutely stunning and will be a real show stopper in your garden.

I am just so glad that Rob is doing well as I too have a soft spot for him. I bought plants from him way back when he first moved Mary's plants. I thought he had some either health issues or business problems which made me terribly sad because he was always a delight when I contacted him. Glad that was not the case. Yay!

I have a L. Paisley Print and just love it. It has struggled to survive the dogs over the years and is still small, but I am hopeful that it is now feeling safe and will grow and thrive here!

Claudia, I wonder how long it would take me to drive from northern Virginia to visit his gardens with you. Hmmmm....
