We are thinking white tone tiles in large squares, light gray walls and crisp white ceilings. We want wide, modern blinds to replace those on the external door. Renovating the balcony is a problem for another day.

I really want a feature wall in this living room, but I don't want to just paint/wallpaper a whole wall a different colour.

Do you all think that a 60" (1.5metre) wide vertical tiled section in the middle of the left-hand wall (in line with where we would put the TV) would be weird? In a dark neutral colour? What about textured wallpaper instead? In the same or a different colour?

We have a small budget and want a focal point on that wall that isn't just the TV. Unfortunately there is no nice architecture in this room to help us out - it is just a box of a room.

We will also remove the ceiling light and replace it with downlights.
