I have cream in my kitchen with similar cabinets. My kitchen is in my "my pics" idea book.

If you go with a white, make sure it looks good with your white appliances. I’d be tempted to choose a color, maybe blue or green.

I agree whites can be iffy with white appliances. You won't have a problem if you go with a neutral off white, such as jhmarie's cream. The Maritime White is also neutral and nice with white trim and/or white appliances...in my non-pro opinion.

To my eye, a green or blue can make the orange or yellow tone in oak cabinets more prominent, if that's what you want.

@latifolia and @chloebud good point about the white appliances. My painter is suggesting a blue combo with a dark blue in the backsplash area and a lighter blue for the large walls. Like evening sky & blue heron; stunning & blue nova; or kensington blue & old blue jeans.

Only do a dark color in the backsplash area if you have under cabinet lighting. Put under cabinet lighting on your to do list anyway - it is the thing I did that I like the most.

Blue is my favorite color - and goes pretty well with wood - but I prefer to use it in accessories / decor rather than on walls in main rooms. I would do a sage type green if I wanted a color. Grays and warm woods don't work great together - neither brings out the best in each other, but the green grays can work.

These green grays can be tricky, so if you go this direction, get a sample jar and a large piece of foam board. Paint the foam board and look at it in different lighting in different places, different times of the day (do that regardless of the color your pick) - sometimes they can be too green, blue or gray for the space - or perfect. SW Rainwashed is another similar color.

jhmarie I actually do have under cabinet lighting. I agree about blue and I have some kitchen decor already that has blue in it that I would like to continue to use, plus I'm thinking about a powder blue for a bath next to the kitchen. The greens are pretty but reminds me too much of a previous space that I don't want to be reminded of :) I think I like a neutral for the kitchen, something that doesn't make the cabinets stand out but also isn't too blah.

Blue will make the orange tones of the oak stand out.

You may need to prime over the red anyway to get a good coverage of the new color. Consider a white or cream prime coat - that will neutralize the effects of the red and help you decide.

Yes, I agree blue will make the orange tones stand out. One of the blog posts I linked above gave suggestions for if you want them to stand out and suggestions for if you want them to blend in. Personally though I love blue, I would go with something that makes the orange tones blend in better.

We just moved into a home with a very dark red kitchen, similar to your wall color. We have only an eastern facing window so the darkness was overwhelming. We painted the kitchen SW Marshmallow and it looks great.

The top and the last color suggested in the KYLIE posts at the top, specific for yellow honey wood tones, were very nice, too. I was surprized at how well the gray tone went with it, but than gray and yellow are very pretty together. I like your 2 choices too. With all that red I can see the need for a break from C O L O R to let the kitchen cabinets star with your favorite accessories. It will be lovely.

redsilver I agree! I am a little torn on whether they are more orange or yellow oak. There's also Revere Pewter, a beloved BM color. That has a grey undertone. But, thinking of that for DR/LR. Thank you!

I have read that WHITE is not a very good option for making your wood look the prettiest, so something with a bit of color may be good..

I worry that any white that isn't WHITE will look dingy/dirty up against the white appliances, I would lean toward a bit of colour. I have written a few blog posts on both white appliances and wood cabinets, they might have some helpful info in them!

oh MAN! Well, in the whole mix, we can't forget about your floor, which might just prefer something a wink warmer than Revere Pewter. Check out Edgecomb Gray - n not as beige as Muslin/White Sand, but not quite as heavy warm gray as RP :)
