These grow around 4-5 feet tall. You can cut them almost to the ground in early spring and they will grow back fuller so you don’t have so much bare area at the bottom. You aren’t really supposed to have a bare trunk. It’s a shrub, not a tree.

Since your plant is a standard on a 2-foot trunk, and a regular bush of KO can easily reach 5ft in NC, I'd say your 4 1/2 minimum will be very easily met, your issue will more likely be that it gets too tall. Fortunately, KO takes well to pruning.

Thank you. I'm going to try it again because it is so perfect where I had it before it died and keep my fingers crossed that it will grow quickly in the ground rather than in a pot. I do have KO bushes in another garden and they've grown to about 4' in heavy clay but somewhat amended soil. The only plant I don't have trouble with in this yard is bee balm.

I have 105 rose trees in pot, and 24 of them are KO rose trees. Mine are about 5-5.5’ in pots in zone 5b. Yours should be over 6’ after a year. You can keep them smaller by trimming.

I gave a friend one and hers is easily 7 - 8 ft tall and I can't even guess how big around. It has not been pruned much. FYI: hers is still "in the pot", but has grown through it and the trunk is about 3 ft around! She lives in Simpsonville, SC
