I use them to floss between the thread guides, tension discs.

I've been doing this for years, you mean this isn't common knowledge?

Every time I change bobbins, I swab out the bobbin area w/ a pipe cleaner. I too do the tension disks & any other areas I can get it into.

Once in a blue moon, I invert the whole machine, lift it out of the lower housing & pipe cleaner out the underneath.

Am much better about doing this than I am about changing needles. Makes all the diff in the world I think. My old Singer 347 (given me graduating high school) still runs really well. I had it serviced a few yrs. ago & it's held up really well.
