That was the builder's point of putting it there. But are there any reasons not to put it on the back of the door?

Put it on the baseboard like everyone else. It it's on the door, the aliens will trip over it when the door is opened and closed...

Neither. Put the door stop on the wall where the handle contacts the wall.

Reason? Almost any design intended for the baseboard/bottom of the door will either warp the hinges if hit too hard/often, poke a hole in a hollow core door, or eventually break/become loose and mar the baseboard/door.

interesting reading this discussion. i always knew them to be on the baseboard but we just finished building and the builder put them all on the door! just hit my ankle. so i got on google to try to find the pros of having it on the door. since we're not changing it at this point!

We use the ones that go on the hinges in our current house. I really like them as I can adjust how much I allow the door to open and they rest against the casing when the door is open. There are a few areas that have furniture behind the door and the adjustment capability is nice to allow it to open less than it could.

Complete outlier here. My doorstops are small round ones that are on the floor.

I love the way they look as mine essentially blend into my wood flooring.

They aren't hazardous as no one is going to trip over something that is behind the door and basically at the door casing. They also don't present any kind of cleaning problem as they are very small and short.

I used floor mounted, small doorstops in most of the house. Easy to clean, close to the base, inobtrusive
in several apartments we rented in Europe, they used very heavy, larger round stops that were not fixed. Another neat solution.

I also use the ones that go on the door hinge. Small and inconspicuous. You can adjust to how wide you want to swing open.
