Help Master Bedroom bland?

last modified: 8 years ago

I feel like I have spent alot of time and money trying to fix up my master. But I am still not satisfied with it. Is it all just in my head? I am not crazy about the windows over the bed and am thinking I am choosing all the wrong colors now. I am trying out different lamps and rugs too. I really like neutral colors but I think there is a side of me that secretly loves ecclectic and causing an inner conflict lol. Does anyone have any suggestions? Rug? Art? Anything at this point would be very appreciated. Thanks.

Is there another wall the bed can go on? I think curtains along the wall with windows will look better than those little blinds (?). As for the paint color it does seem a little too grey with all of the creams. Maybe try using a color (sage green, sea salt etc.) for some interest.

Unfortunately that is the only wall that the bed can go on. The opposite wall is a bunch of windows

Thank you for the visual. I am actually going to have a custom white rug made out of carpet so I’ll keep in mind to make it larger.

You might be better to put the bed up against the window wall (if everything fits) and either do a wall of fabric (sheers with blinds behind them as an example) or something like this. Is there a reason why you need window coverings on those small windows? They seem quite high. Then you can put that console you have currently under the 3 separate windows.

If you can, turn the rug around 90 degrees and out it a little further under the bed. If you can pull the bed out about 18” so it’s not right up against the wall, and then add long curtains like people have suggested, that would be a start.

The only color I can see in my that room is the pale blue lamp. If you like that color, consider a subtle print for the curtains with blue, some blue throw pillows, and some art with blue. Maybe a landscape or seascape?

Ya I will look into curtains behind the bed. The shades were necessary since it is a western wall in Texas (so the heat can get out of control) and also I had a baby that took naps.

Yes there was the pale blue lamp. I was trying to incorporate the blue a little but then the comforter is a silvery-green. So I am trying to throw it all together. Maybe an artpiece with some green and blue in it like you said.

Will the bed fit if you move it over to the other wall with windows? Don't purchase a rug until you have the layout figured out. If you are secretly "eclectic" I think we could come up with a rug that won't shout out but will lend the room a bit more of your secret style.

    Hot in TX?? Nooo... lol.

If you decide to leave the bed where it is, I think a lot of your problems could be solved with a statement wallpaper on the wall with the small windows. Also, a larger rug as others have suggested.

If that is the only wall for the bed you can sheetrock over the windows on the inside and have a plain wall; or you can hang wall to wall curtains which I think was mentioned .

    Here are some inspiration pictures!

You could also frame out your windows by removing the upper trim to include all three with paneling between the windows so they are all ganged to look similar to the three windows shown in this dreamy room with wall to wall curtains!

I agree with adding wallpaper and turning the rug the other direction.

I like the pale blue lamp that you have on the nightstand. I would purchase another one for the other side. Also, I think a nice bench at the end of the bed would look great.

Sorry but I wouldn't do wall paper on that wall if the bed stays there. Too much going on with that wall and is part of the problem. With such a beautiful headboard it needs to shine on its own but with 3 windows, the trim around the windows, the roman shades, adding a statement wallpaper only adds more busyness rather than a restful spot for the eye.

Thanks so much for all the input! I played around with the idea of drapes and found this cornice vs a much simpler option of the drapes (it was surprisingly difficult to find a photo of close drapes). I dont want to cover up all three windows. Just that one middle one. Plus it is very difficult to find a curtain rod longer than 180in. Also I dont have photoshop so the pictures are not the best quality- apologies!

The rug should show at least two feet wide around the sides and foot of the bed. When you get out of bed, it's nice to have soft carpet to walk on. Either turn the carpet in the other direction or buy a proper-size carpet. No need to go "custom".

Bigger rug that goes around the entire bed and changing the wall color.

When I suggested the fabric wall I was thinking of the bed up against the opposite wall. If you are going to leave the bed where it is, I wouldn't do anything else to that wall for the same reasons as I mentioned for not doing wall paper.

Would it be worth it if you actually had the middle window removed?
