Deb, they won't starve since you have flowers for them. It will just take them awile to get used to the new one.

I don't use feeders with yellow flowers as yellow attracts wasps and bees.

Rhonda, I don't have any flowers for them right now, or none they like. I couldn't get any coral honeysuckle to root, and all the milkweed has been eaten up. The purple showers isn't blooming, only the cannas right now and the penta and a couple of small vincas and marigolds.

But that's o.k. I made a few circles of yellow from an old Stax potato chip container (I save them to hold the pigeon peas upright once they get of a size where they want to fall over). So they realized it was a feeder now, and one even sat on the rim, although not where I could see him. He likes to hide.

It was so cute. This morning, my big black-headed boy took one look at it, and hovered straight in front of the window, looking at me as if to say "WTH is this? Where is my feeder?" Then he flew off again.

I saw what looked like a ruby-throated female at it later. My neighbor said the "green ones" come to her yard somtimes, but she has nothing for them to eat. I'm going to hang the second hanger up on a tall shepherd's hook at the other side of the garden so if there are two different kinds, which there appear to be, they won't have to eat in the same place. I had 4 feeders on my big front porch in SC, and all the families had their favorite one. They would literaly fight if a strange hummer came to their feeder. I started out with one big one, and had to get another and then another and another because there were so many hummers out there in the country.
