alder... pecan ..or other...they could have bleached it to make the striated grain. Alder doesn't usually show that much background texture...but there could have been a technique they came up with. the knots look like alder to me.

Omega has a finish called ceruse natural (also ceruse gray) that achieves this effect. It looks amazing on quartersawn oak.
