I don't think you have to put anything there. You have the shelving in the dining area, so it seems a little redundant to have two. If it feels bare without it, Perhaps a piece of art work or accent wall piece would work.

If you really need storage maybe a cabinet similar to this with doors. You don't need any more open shelves that close to the dining room shelves.

We think you don't need a shelf at all since you have a very nice one on the wall in the dining area. We like the suggestion above of the cabinet with doors if you feel you need more storage, however you could also put a small piece of art or a plant there if you feel the place needs something.

Daniel, I sneaked in, donated your Ikea bookcase to a starving student in the dorm, and hung the art.

Following groveraxle's artwork with a piece on that big wall in the dining room would be great!
