Hi Denis. The registration of Paul's Glory was actually incorrect and had the wrong parentage listed. The leaf shape, flowers and flowering time are all a wrong match for Perry's True Blue, so that's why Mark Zilis named the solid blue sport of Paul's Glory as Wheaton Blue.

Theoretically each time a hosta sports there is a chance that the sport could be a bit different. For example I introduced Hosta 'Flamenco Mouse' and its sport 'Field Rat'. 'Flamenco Mouse' is a polyploid with a tetraploid center and a diploid edge, and when it sports to a hosta that is only the edge I've seen two different variations of it. The original Field Rat has a trumpet shaped flower and slightly spear shaped leaves and every once in a while I get a sport just like it but with a bell shaped flower and slightly more heart shaped leaves. There are variations of Flamenco Mouse that get slightly larger too, so I try to weed those out. Basically not every diploid sport of Flamenco Mouse is exactly the same though it would be really hard to tell without growing as many as I have.

In the case of Paul's Glory there really isn't any variation seen when it sports to solid blue. In your garden you wouldn't have any problem calling it Wheaton Blue. Just don't call it Perry's True Blue since it will never revert back to that plant as it never came from it in the first place.
