is is normal for echiveria to die after flowering?

My lady gave me an echeveria a month or so ago and not too shortly after I planted it a flower stalk appeared. I was pretty stoked and just figured the change in setting caused this. But very shortly after the leaves from the outside started browning up and now there is not much left but the flower stalk.

This is actually a sempervivum, not an echeveria. And yes, sempervivums are monocarpic, meaning they die after flowering. Echeverias will typically flower once a year.

Your plant is a Sempervivum, not Echeveria. And they die after flowering, but usually will produce pups.

Very good. Thank you for the proper ID too! I’m afraid it wasn’t planted long enough to hardly even root itself that great. Does it produce seeds or is it just done then?
