Agree, looks like herbicide damage, with new growth growing out of the damage, reddish color is normal on red/red-silver maple hybrids.

Thanks all for the comments so far. That should be reversable then with time? I do have Tru green do the trees and shrubs and it would seem this occurred a week or so after. Thank you for the lawn comments, I spend a lot of time and effort on it. I do treat it as well with a pellet fertilizer and broadleaf iquid for crab grass, weeds, dandelions, etc. But stay clear of the trees.

I'm not a fan of Tru Green. They do some work for some of the bigger corporate contracts our family lawn care company mows for and they darn near kill the grass each summer with whatever the heck they spray on the lawns.

TruGreen used to be known as ChemLawn........that might provide some enlightenment as to the products they apply :-) Usually much too liberally and typically, without need. Unless you have had identifiable disease or insect issues with your trees and shrubs, spraying them is not accomplishing anything and is just costing you $$ unnecessarily. And fertilizing established landscape plantings is seldom necessary as well, unless you have identified some need or nutrient deficiency with a soi test.

I could tell you some firsthand horror stories about TruGreen and spraying the wrong products or carelessly exposing plants to herbicide damage. Personally, I would not let that company come within a mile of my garden and discourage all my clients from using them as well!!

Yes. In this case, the chemical damage looks minimal and the tree should outgrow or overcome the effects rather quickly and should look good as new next season.
