My bathroom is 11 years old (and was done with some help from the bathrooms forum) and we have a new, time-sensitive issue. When we did the bathroom, we used almost all California Faucets mocha bronze PVD pieces. The one thing we left alone was the drain piece, as we kept our tub and didn't want to rip stuff up just to change the drain. It used to be just an open drain that you could put a plug in or cover with a hair catcher. Since it was just a ring, and the metal was old and dull, it didn't look too bad with all the ORB stuff. We are now doing our kitchen, and when they took out the ceiling, they discovered the drum basin for the bathrub, which they had to remove to be in compliance. That's all fine, but we were out of town, and the contractor apparently told the plumber to "get an oil rubbed bronze drain if they have it, and otherwise get silver" since "silver" is what was there before.

Well, no one knows why, but the plumber also changed the overflow faceplate to this godawful chrome (see pics) and threw away our Cal Faucets piece. Contractor said they will get a new overflow faceplate from Cal Faucets and put it back. Problem solved.

Now my husband and I are wondering if since they still have access to the drainage through the kitchen ceiling, maybe we should change the drain too. This is the only time we would be able to do it. The best thing to do design-wise would be to get it from Cal Faucets, but we only have until the end of the week, and Idk how fast we could get it (I will be calling distributors tomorrow). So I have 2 questions: 1) if we can't get the piece from Cal Faucets in time, would it be a bad idea to use a non-PVD drain from another manufacturer? I did look around quickly online and didn't see other ORB PVD drains. If we use a piece that's not PVD, is that asking for trouble? 2) would it even be prudent to get a matching Cal Faucets PVD drain piece? They don't guarantee the finish on their drain pieces (even if they're PVD), and if anything is going to accumulate damage over time, it would be the drain, right? Assuming we won't access that piece ever again, should we use one that has a hardier finish? We lived with the dull silver "ring" drain for a long time, so at least changing out the new chrome one to brushed nickel or something would be tolerable.

Please excuse the yuck. Tilex usually takes care of that fast, but the last time I bought it, they had changed the label, and I accidentally bought the one without bleach!
