Pepper question

I've been growing red, yellow, orange peppers every summer for awhile. This year, they grew huge on the bottom of the plant (about 2-3 per plant) and were very slow to grow new ones on the top.

Then it hit me......would I end up with more per plant if I cut off the first green ones at the bottom, when they were about medium sized? I'm thinking that might increase the yield a little later without those bottom ones getting so big and sending out a message to the plant that they've made plenty of seed for the next generation.

What do you think?
