Please, allow me to offer some insight.

Although it is largely preferential deciding the where/what/how when it comes to outdoor lighting, there are indeed some common practices in the industry. Typically, users prefer fixtures which all have matching finishes for their projects; the styling or designs of the housings usually vary given the individual applications.

Of course, this is not to say that some individuals don't 'mix-and-match' persay. For example, some people prefer to have fixtures with lighter-colored finishes (e.g. white or polished metals) directly on their house while using fixtures with dark finishes out in the yard/along walkways for camouflage (e.g. dark bronze or black).

As to what exactly would work best for your project, this would be relative to the layout of the home as well as your personal preferences. Hopefully I was able to shed some light for you.
