We are planning on building a home with a wrap around deck around the west and south sides of the house. Summer sun is straight overhead in Colorado. Winter sun will give us some warmth in winter.

We also want floor to ceiling windows/doors on the south side for the views. Our dilema is should we cover the porch/deck? The advantages are shade in summer and no shoveling of snow in winter. Disadvantages are limited views from the inside of the house due to overhang of roof.

Any opinions, or advise if you done one or the other?
