I understand that you are supposed to cut the suckers off. The suckers bear a different fruit and not so good than the mother tree. I cut the suckers off mine. One had no suckers. Carol

Jujubes do not grow true from seed, and cuttings do not root easily so the best fruiting varieties must be grafted to reliably produce good quality fruit.

I agree with Carol that the sucker is from the root stock and should be removed.

My only complaint about Jujubes is that they sucker like crazy. However, in my experience it seems that the propensity to sucker slows down after a few years, or maybe its just because it's been so dry the last few years where I live.

I came across some advice on the internet about their removal in order to use them for grafting.

In consideration of the advice below my thought is to cut the sucker to ground level instead of digging it up. Just for fun I'd probably wait until after the fruit from the sucker ripens to see what it's like.

• Don't take too many suckers from any one
  tree because the damage involved in cutting the roots will weaken the
  tree. Mature trees are more tolerant and could easily give six or eight
  suckers, while young trees could be weakened if more than two or three
  are removed.
• Avoid taking suckers attached to roots more than 1 1/2 inches in diameter. Leaving the bigger roots on the tree does less damage and also makes the work of cutting through the roots much easier.

Thank you Carol. It's had over 16,000 views. I guess there are more than a few people interested in Jujubes and not much information to be found. Although I'm not looking to plant more trees I'm looking forward to watching it, or at least skimming through.
