We are planning to change the facade of our 1973 brick ranch. I stumbled upon the idea of dyeing the brick and found Dyebrick in the UK. Watched the videos and it all seemed very doable. Ordered sample pots in 5 colors on Saturday and they arrived WEDNESDAY!
Since I didn’t find very much information online, I wanted to share my experience hoping it’ll help someone else in their research.
The pots come ready to use, you can add a little more water to dilute the color if desired. The fixative is only added once you have settled on the permanent color-since I was just testing it out, I didn’t add any. You can also create your own blends with different colors as long as you track the percentages of each color that you used!
Contents were shaken and stirred (they settled quite a bit in transit) and then transferred to a wider container. I used a brush to apply the dye, stirred with each redip; the dye was super easy to use.
Color below is Old English Red:
It did exactly what I wanted: made the brick a deeper red color. But a sort of “effect“ had been added to the brick by way of some grey and white substance (original to the house). It made the dye appear chalky only on those bricks. The “normal” bricks look great and just how I pictured.
You should be careful rinsing the brush and cup as the dye is powerful and goes everywhere if a strong water stream is used (avoid kitchen and bathroom sinks!) I rinsed over the grass.
Since I didn’t add the fixative, it can be powerwashed to remove the dye.
Hope this is useful to someone out there.
