You might have a problem. I’d test it.

I guess now it is time to research how to dig it up, to minimize the spread of the virus. Thank you for confirming what I was thinking (and hoping there was another solution), Sad this hosta came from a well respected local nursery.

I summarized the advice on removal as:

"If you discover that you have a plant infected with Hosta Virus X then
the plant should be dug up and sent to the landfill or burned. If you
are careful to quarantine the plant (always cleaning tools as described
below), you can wait until late in the season to remove it, as there is
less flow of infected sap at this time. Dig the entire plant getting as
much of the roots as possible. Do not put another hosta in the same hole for at least two seasons, as the root residue has been shown to be infective for at least that
long; most careful gardeners would put a fern, astilbe or a rock there
instead. Note that you cannot successfully decontaminate the hole where
the hosta was (using bleach, boiling water, etc.)."

Needless to say, I hope, but thoroughly scrub your tools (with a disinfecting kitchen cleaner, perhaps) when you are done. Bag the hosta and put it in trash, not your compost pile.
