I have found that dome homes work best with many builtins especially the kitchen and bathrooms . If you google dome home interiors you will get many ideas.

@redsilver I think that is fair, i think the house can pay for itself over time with vacation rental as i said. For the same reason you did, it makes people smile. The house is getting purchased for basically the 4 acres it is on in the nicest neighborhood in the area. So, technically i could bull-dose, build a brand new million dollar house and sell for multimillions as the comps are that high. This is because of the school district and the type of people who live there are typically well off, and want to be close to all the action, while still feeling like they have low maintenance space. I am less concerned about the investment in the space, and more trying to figure out how to set it up best to rent and be livable :) it is for sale for less than half the value of a nice similar sized home in the neighborhood as it is not updated at all and weird :)

Sounds like the best case scenario all around, in that case. It could be something that is very worthwhile for you. Congrats on the great find!

You also need to check to see if you can turn it into a Airbnb as some areas are tightening the restrictions on them if that is what you want to do with it. Long term rentals are fine but not short term for several cities in this area.

Edited to add. Although some cities allow Airbnb's they may restrict them to certain areas. Some how if this is in the nicest area you fill find lots of opposition to having a steady stream of new people coming and going at all times.

Your potential neighbors may stop an Airbnb business dead in its tracks.

There's a geo-dome across the street from us. The builders/owners are in the middle of deciding their downsizing and sale. The neighborhood is very curious as to the time line and price differential on such an unusual home. It is a lovely home. No built ins. Open floor plan. Yes, our covenants do not allow businesses out of homes.

How long was the one you are looking at on the market? How does the price compare to another say three bedroom (what ever it is) in your neighborhood?

You may find that there is more to being considered a primary residence than only owning it depending on the laws in your area. Some have differing rules as to length of time that you must actually live in the house. While I have seen some that only declaring it your primary residence I have also seen some with much longer live in times. One that I personally know of was six months. I would suggest talking to an attorney in the area about this. Depending on the area there may not be an attorney that specializes in real estate but ask in the area for someone that is familiar with real estate and its issues.

Not a lot up against walls at the neighbors. Very open concept so a lot of floating furniture. There is a circular stair going up to the loft and an open staircase going down to the basement. That is where the sofa sits up against the railing. The TV is mounted to the wall/ceiling. It works. I can tell you the acoustics are INSANE. If someone is at the front door talking normally back in the kitchen it sounds like they are standing right next to you. She taught piano and DH could not be in the house during lessons. TOO LOUD. I always wondered what it was like when her kids were toddlers and rambunctious!!

Thought you would like to see a dome home currently for sale in my hometown area. It’s an interesting mix of original and updated. Been on the market since March with several price drops. Although to be fair, houses in this market in this price bracket generally take longer to sell.

Very similar rooms to my neighbors. Pic #24 ISH particle board ceiling is not attractive!! My neighbors has LARGE triangle windows in the main areas that fit inside the geometric grid of the dome. Thanks for sharing. It will be interesting to see how their sale goes for them.

I think it will sell faster than this other local time capsule straight outta 1976 (which started out at about the same price) because the dome home has relatively updated kitchen and baths, the location and gardens are lovely, and the rustic wood and stone features are still very popular in this area. I agree with you arcy I really don't understand the bedroom ceilings at all.
