oh absolutely!! i have a nephew (i don't claim him!) who is an addict. eden never liked him from the first time she met him. thankfully, he's now in jail and never comes out to the farm where most of his family lives.

i have had several dogs in the past that were very intuitive to how i was feeling. when i was sad, they got very clingy.

My opinion is that dogs definitely are sensitive to their master/mistress's emotional state. I've never had an experience such an as the dog judging a stranger or other person. But I know he would steer clear of anyone who was using an aggressive or angry tone of voice.

As in Lightning and Thunder Storm starts and we run around closing windows, acting startled with each thunder clap, and then claim the dog is "Thunder shy" or similar. Same with a vacuum cleaner being run.

My dogs, including the pups in my litters, never was seen to react to Lightning nor a vacuum cleaner.

i will give you a perfect example. the last 2 weeks of my husbands battle with cancer were spent just up the lane at his mother's home because she had more room for visitors and for a hospital bed. hospice nurses visited every couple of days.

at the time, gary and i had 2 pembroke welsh corgis that were very attached to him. every day, they came up the lane to lay on the deck where they stayed all day up until dark. i took them home at dark because we have many coyotes out here. i would go up the next morning, feed, and let them out and they would trot right up to her house and take up their vigil on the deck.

the night gary died, i took the dogs home and shut the dog door. even though the funeral people had come and taken gary away, i still wanted to sleep in that room so i went back up that night. the next day, i went home and let the corgis out and they stayed home. i spent the next 2 nights sleeping in gary's room and those dogs never came back. they somehow knew he was no longer there.

They absolutely do! Every dog I've been owned by (we all are might as well admit to it, lol) has been super in tune with how me and others around me are feeling. Especially when I have been sick or sad, they know cuddles and quiet time. And when they do go out to play they come in every few minutes of so just to check up on me. Also it's not just dogs, I have a cat that acts the same way. Her best buddy was a dog and he passed a few years ago. When his health was deteriorating she started staying next to him all the time, and when he did pass she was depressed for weeks. Her appetite went down, she lost weight, slept way more than usual, and every time I would go to pet her she would get up and move (I was the one that had to take him to the vet so she blamed me). Animals are just amazing!
