I thought I was looking at MY family room! Leather sofasame style as yours, but slightly lighter. Almost the same rug as the one of the left. Upholstery on chairs and rest of decor pale blue/greens. The one on the left is perfect or so I have found.

I like the middle one, balance out the couch, taking out some of its heavyness. Other ones look washed out against it.

I like the middle one too, it enhances the floor and the sofa. Don’t get talked into getting a new sofa as long as you like it and it’s comfortable.

Yep the middle one can stand up to the sofa. The one on the left is a bit too feminine and soft and the couch is not in any way feminine.

Saw this in one of the Houzz articles and thought of you.

I love the middle one. The big bold colors will look great with your couch. I am afraid that with the one on the left your couch will look like a brown iceberg floating on a sea of beautiful pale blue.

Can we see a few more pics of your room? It looks like the middle one would look great with your sofa and wall colour. However, if you don’t like it, don’t buy it! The left one has potential too. Would help if we could see more of your space.

@ScarlettGordon.. I think you are right and I didn't think of it that way until your comment. I did previously purchase another rug.. it was kind of "blah" but now I'm wondering if it would've looked nice if I would've just had more furniture.

Here is kind of more of my space. I'm literally working with really nothing other than the color of the space. I want to decide on a rug and then purchase curtains, throws, and pillows based off that. This rug was an ivory and gray. I feel like the walls look more greige/beige in this photo. They are not. They are definitely more of a gray like in the second pic (the pic below this one):

In looking at your photos again, I’m not sure that a rug with a medallion is the best choice for your room. I also noticed that your floors have lots of texture and a rug with a bold pattern might be too much for lack of a better word, busy wood floor.

Does the middle rug even "go" with the couch? Or does everyone just like it the best out of the options? It can get a little dark in here so I'm worried it would just be too dark.

I think it goes very well, hence me voting for it. It supports the couch the best as others have said

I'd make sure though it has some gray in it that your walls seem to have as you say. Not exactly same, but of same ..temperature. It reads warm to me; and your walls, a bit hard to say, because I see them after the color went through several filters-a different light, your camera, Houzz's website, my monitor..:)

Yes, I think a mock up of the middle rug with your sofa would help you a lot and all of us "armchair designers" as well!

@aprilneverends, the very little gray in it is a very warm gray.

I think the middle one is too dark for your room, don’t like the medallion for your room and it’s too busy with your floors. I think you could do much better than all of them.

I think that the rug colour is good but you need to move the table off the rug and move the sofa ,then get a couple pillows of the same blue as the rug ,a lamp and a chair will complete the look ,do you have any art on the walls?

You don't think that's the only comfortable sofa available do you? Don't keep that crummy couch. It looks terrible in your home.

That’s pretty blunt. I can’t imagine having a white sofa for tv watching. What a nightmare after about one year. Seeing the middle rug in the picture, I can see it’s not the best. None of them are best, but that because I’m not a fan of orientals that aren’t actual orientals. Love the colors though, to my view you’re on the right track there.

Beverly, just because you don’t like the sofa doesn’t make it “crummy”. I’m sure when the OP purchased it she didn’t think it was crummy. Some people decorate on a budget and due to the fact that she was asking about a new rug made me believe she was keeping the sofa. Do you have a recommendation for a rug that would work in the OP’s room?

Really, Can you look at his gorgeous home and in comparison not tell this couch is crummy? It's like when you get a new party dress and have to wear rubber rainboots with the dress. Not a good look.

Plus the OP already knows this couch doesn't look good in the room. This stupid couch. If it wasn't so darn comfortable, I would just buy a new one that would "go" with the colors and style of my place.

And she likes the lighter rug whose colors are completely overwhelmed by the existing sofa.

I'm guessing the reason this sofa might have been originally selected was due to comfort,...... which is a valid reason. Maybe it complimented the previous home,..... also a valid reason.

I selected a recliner leather sofa and other designs based on comfort. I'm assuming they perhaps are available in a different colors. White leather sofas are easier to clean than anything else.

I'm actually laughing at the crummy couch comments.. it's true, it looks terrible in my space. It's sooo comfy though. However, I went out and about looking for rugs with my mom, and after awhile, we quit looking at rugs and started looking at new couches. All of the upholstered swatches we brought home don't look the greatest.

Maybe just paint your walls. Couch = $$ paint = $

Go with a neutral color rug, preferably one with some texture to warm the room. A a neutral color rug will not compete and detract from your floors and you'll have more leeway in decorating the room. If you do a search of 'living rooms with brown leather couch' on Google Images you will see lots of rug options. Here's one:
