My hoop houses are temporary and the pvc pipe is pulled out and stored about 9 months of the year. I used both 1/2" pipe on one and 3/4" on the other at 2' spacing.

The short one has a 2 by 4 at the ridge. It never had to stand up to snowfall but I bet that it would be okay. The other has no ridge pole, just twine tied to maintain spacing. It is way too flimsy for the snow. How do I know? It collapsed several times following March storms. Luckily, no real damage to structure or plants occurred.

Steve, the approximate dimensions are height is 6' 8" (just enough for me to stand with a bit of clearance), length is 10 feet, width is about 7.5', distance between hoops is 3'4". At some point I might extend to 20' in length.

The Colorado dry powdery snow tends to slide off my similar smaller tunnels and I usually brush it off as soon as I can though sometimes I'm away for 3-4 days at a time. Hasn't been an issue yet.

Not planning on an active heat source. For that matter the last few years I've moved away from passive heating, dark containers of water, because they seem to make an excellent micro environment for aphids and slugs.

The 3'4" between hoops gives me a bit of a pause. You do have the horizontal pipes.

I wonder if you might find it of benefit to put another horizontal pipe at the top. Probably don't need to bother doing that initially.

How are the horizontal and standing pipes fastened together? Interested for my own projects
