Without knowing if you've had any rain it's impossible to answer that question. The temperature isn't the deciding factor on whether to water or not, it's the amount of moisture in the soil and the behaviour of the plants.

Agree. As a very general rule you would water them as long as they are alive and the crowns are still living even after fern die back. And for my location that also means during the winter if no rain or snowfall. Of course they need less water than during the hot summer months but if no moisture is provided the crowns themselves will die.

On the other hand, most years in a climate like mine, you'll never need to water asparagus. So you see how important it is to factor in precipitation when deciding on whether to water.

I'm in zone 8b, South Eastern coastal area. So, what I'm gathering is that depending on rainfall amounts, I continue to water to supplement the days we get no rain. I was thinking that maybe I stopped but I'll continue.

'to supplement the days we have no rain'... They don't need water every day. It might not rain for a week or two and they'd be fine. It depends on the moisture available in the soil which isn't necessarily going to be insufficient just because it hasn't rained for a few days.

I mulch mine in the fall with 7-8 inches of leaves and have never watered them in zone 5a.
