We're in the framing process of our new build, modern farmhouse. See pics below. It's about 25' + from floor, to top of ceiling, plus the clerestory feature. Due to some late-in-the-game changes that the architect required after feedback from framers (don't ask, long drawn out story... I'm just glad supposedly it now won't fall down!) - we have these larger than planned for structurally-required beams and vertical supports at 5 points along the ridge of the great room. They're made of engineered LVLs and not pretty, so we have to dress them up. What do you suggest? The feel of the house is more transitional/modern than rustic-farmhouse. Planning on white/light colored walls (no grey), light colored flooring (wood or wood-look), probably white ceiling but still TBD on that, based on beam treatment decision. Fauxwoodbeams.com type of solution? Perhaps industrial look with wrapped steel?? Overall our home is going for comfortable and inviting and a bit elegant/cool... if possible! The ones visible from the main area are sooo high up - from the loft above the kitchen they're a bit closer, but probably not that visible for guests. Our designer thought treating both the horiztontal and vertical parts of the "trusses" the same might look too heavy.
