Never tried Quantum but it sure sounds interesting. Can you post a photo and post about the flavor when you get a chance?

Wayne, do you can them? We found cutting them into 1 inch squares works well. In my opinion butternut makes the best pumpkin pies...not pumpkin. Nice and smooth texture. I think we just finished the last of our "08" butternuts. Haha. We had the good fortune/mistake of growing four of those plants when we gardened on our river bottom property. In an effort to find a home for all of them we filled a plastic 4' x 4' skid and sold them for .20 cents a piece.

One fella informed my dad that we wanted too much for them. Pop told them to go to Kroger and look at their price per pound, not per butternut and get back with him. Later, him and his wife came back and bought out the entire skid. We later found them reselling the butternuts out at the junction on the highway, 4 miles away. I guess our prices were not too bad after all.

confirms that Quantum gives consistently high yields. I'm looking forward to trying it next year.

Cut in half, bake for a while until a little softer [not mushy], and then the blender..

I used to grow butternuts but several of mine would succumb to pickle worm or similar borers before they cured well. That's when I switched to sweet potatoes and got hooked on them instead. I may give Quantum a try, sounds productive enough to suffer some losses. thx Wayne.

vgkg, I once had some worms bore in the bottom where it lays on the ground...no pickle worms here. I have something under some of the butternuts to break the ground contact....like cantaloupes.
