Unusual -- very attractive. Here's a white pine (P strobus) that eased down into the lake water but the roots on the shore are still embedded/dry and the tree survives for now:

This made me make a u turn,i thought its fake but its a real live white pine.

==>>> thx for going back to take a pic.. and posting it for us ...

it would be interesting.. to find out how this was accomplished .... someone with decades of foresight ...

do you think this park has a maintenance man .. who you might be able to contact???

btw.. where is it??? ... thx again ....

Thanks for posting, super cool!

I guess one would call it arch-itectural. Thanks for the pix.

This is in one of those small gated parks around Union City, i pass through to get to Jersey city or NYC. The park is called Ellsworth Park. I did try to talk to the person cleaning the area, but this is Hispanic country so no can do. If i have to dig deeper I may have to go to the city hall or maybe library, but thats a lot of effort.

Its really interesting to know how this was done considering the size of the trunk. I am guessing a strong rope & a big stake on the ground. if i have a big lawn Ill probably try to copy or a medium size bonsai. What i have right now at home are arborvitaes tied to arched structures, still very small though. Thanks for all the response.

another pic.. but no info

i have seen conifers trained into shapes ...

of course this was done decades ago ... probably with very young plants ... and pine is pretty bendy ...

the project i saw involved rebar which had to be left there for years and years ...

Those who have visited Gary Gee's arboretum will recognize this pic...

Pinus strobus 'Pendula'

correct me if i am wrong.. in the original pic .. thats two trees.. one in each direction ... there had to be intent to create this ...

Has anyone done something like this? I may try, looks like a fun long term project.

I have tried it to poor effect with P. pungens ‘Slenderina’. Maybe whoever “sculpted” the pine was going after this look.

Here’s a Cedrus from the Oregon Garden.

the second arch could be a branch, its hard to tell. except for the walkway, everything else in the park is fenced in, cant get close to any tree at all. it could be that a big branch of the first arch rooted through layering, thats why the leader was buried & that branch became a new tree. the second tree/arch is not a perfect arch though as the leader/trunk is left hanging in the air, close to the ground. i have to climb part of the fence to get these picts & the second arch is partly covered by that other shrub infront of it.

if i have some time ill try to visit their library to find somethings about this.
