I like the idea photo above but only if your wall color and drapery are very similar as in the picture. You may also consider a set of bamboo blinds above your patio doors because it is a different room and a door not a window you could have a slightly different window treatment above but use the same drapes and keep the top Rod at the same height

Thank you for the suggestions! How high and wide should the curtains be hung? Also, we were planning on having dark oil rubbed bronze thick rods with rings attached to the curtains. The curtains we want are a dark slate grey textured linen.

My concern is that the blank space above the patio door will be highlighted too much. Thoughts?

I’d use shades mounted at the same height and lowered just enough to hide the top of the slider. Both will appear to be the same height. Did that with two windows in my bedroom. Used flat fold Roman shades. The window on the left is about 12” shorter than the large window on the right
