are you asking about the halo ... or the leaf at 3 oclock??? .. or both ...

the soil looks very dry ..... the halo looks like heat/water stress ... and therefore not surprising in the heat of august ...

how much sun is it in??? .. what hours of the day ... how do you water.. could you mulch to cool the soil.. plus retain moisture ????

how can that leaf have water in it.. and the soil look so dry??? ...... dig a small hole.. 3 to 6 inches deep.. a few inches out from the plant .. where you wont hit roots .. and find out soil moisture down at root depth.. maybe you arent watering deep enough ....

My Mississippi Delta is already looking a little peaked, and we’ve had over ten inches of rain in the last six weeks. I am not having any luck with Olga’s hostas. To me they are hybridized for life in the frozen north. I’m doing much better with Bob Solberg’s hostas, being as how they are bred right here in North Carolina.

Thanks guys. Here's a better picture. Ken, I was concerned with the yellowing around the edge of the leaves. The plant gets mostly what I would call bright shade. MAYBE an hour of sun late in the day, but that's about it. It's about 6 feet from a decent sized oak. We have gotten a lot of rain this year, so I have only watered a few times with my trusty DRAMM. However, moisture in this area of the yard tends to be a little boom or bust. A lot of the runoff tends to go through this area, which also tends to sweep the mulch away. I've been thinking about ringing with brick pavers and putting mulch over the top/inside that. Thanks for your input. At least I know now that it's not HVX.

Mm, not sure what is your fert times are but for experiment you can try watering 1 tsp in gal water of Epsom salt.

Am thinking this comes as some soil deficiency, of course in my zone I would do soil testing in the fall and correct deficiency till early spring, this would look like fairly normal wear in my zone at this time.
