I have both of them and the tags look right to me.

Did they flower with the exact same looking flower stalks and the same flowers at the same time? They are that closely related so that their flowers would be identical if you actually have those two plants. Yes, the top one looks like Blue Ivory and isn't Sleeping Beauty. The second one could be Sleeping Beauty but the leaves shouldn't be that elongated. Still, maturity might be a factor here, or if the crown is too high and showing some roots that could cause the leaves to elongate instead of showing its true shape. Did you buy it from a dedicated hosta grower or was it a more general nursery that might have mixed up the tags?

This is a picture of my Sleeping Beauty taken a few minutes ago. In the spring the edge is so dark you almost can't see that it is variegated. Then it lightens to this color by the end of the year.

Where did you buy them? I have seen people look at the tag on a plant and take it out to read it then put it back "wherever". Your first photo could very well be a young Blue Ivory. But your 2nd one is mis-labeled. The shape of the leaves and the coloring is wrong for Sleeping Beauty. Somebody messed up.

Yes Babka I have also noticed people do that too. I bought these hostas a long time ago from a pretty reputable garden, tree and landscaping place. But......here is one problem, as long as I have had them, neither has ever flowered. I am thinking I need to dig them up,look at roots and replant property. Ant other thoughts? I must agree, in spite of the 2nd one's tag it looks exactly like Wolverine.

Dianne- How old is your plant? Mine is 11 years old. Younger leaves often are elongated. Yours has that beautiful blue color that the OP's pic doesn't have.

It is 3 or 4 years old. It is turning more green as the season goes on. It was more blue earlier.

Go with what the tag says. Who's gonna know? You don't!

Just bought a Wolverine from Walmart - cheap. Looks very similar to my 5 Lakeside Dragonfly bought at Costco bareroot in 2012. Might have to plant them side by side to discern the difference. Walmart adhesives their tags to the pot.

I have noticed at times variations of the same variety in other gardens, other photos, that is hard to attribute to growing conditions. My opinion is the grower grew a slightly different looking version.

I agree, go with what the tag says. Here are three of mine that look alike. first is sleeping beauty, the second is ElNino and the third is first frost. It would be pretty hard to name which is which if you didn't know.

i would never rely on a minimum wage.. perhaps sobers person sticking labels in a carton of bare root hosta from a wholesaler.. god knows where ... and then prior person doppelganger ...opening the box and planting a couple dozen dormant plants and sticking tags in ...

and then you get to potential buyers.. and what they do with tags ...

i will go with what chris said .. over any random label ....

never forget.. a hundred dollar hosta.. without a label.. is a 5 dollar hosta ...

Oh yes I have seen a lot of obvious wrong labels in the big box stores and even greenhouses....all of mine come from the very reputable hosta stores online so I know what I'm getting. They haven't failed me yet. I went to a local greenhouse and asked the name of a hosta that wasn't labeled. She told me "a hosta is a hosta". I said how come a rose isn't a rose. I wouldn't think of buying a hosta there. lol

ya just got through saying labels aren't worth the plastic they are printed on!

But then again anyone buying a hundred dollar hosta probably has more money than sense anyhow.

"buy it from a dedicated hosta grower" haven't a clue who that might be and sure as heck don't know who his employees are, but if he is growing in bulk his employees probably don't speak English.

Thank everyone for all their comments. One thing I notice looking back is both of these tags are cut as if they were adhered to the pot. Well, next year, maybe I will put both labels out on the Sleeping Beauty/ Wolverine with question mark. :-)
