Are they pink inside?

I haven't tasted any. I don't think these are quite ripe yet. The flesh is white and supposed to be edible BUT it has dozens of tiny hard black seeds, so I think it would be hard to really eat them.

Each banana is only about 3 inches long at maturity. The whole plant in a pot is about 5 1/2 ft tall but they can get 8ft or so. The pink banana fruits are also fuzzy :)

They are mostly a novelty and for decoration. I just thought they would be cool to try. I got this one as a plant from Plant Delights online nursery this spring and it already has little bananas. There were actually 3 smaller plants growing in with the larger one.

Musa velutina are pretty hardy for banana plants going down to zone 7b with protection/mulching.

The flower is also pink and at eye level so you can enjoy as opposed to the taller banana varieties lol

Very cool, seeded bananas are important for breeding programs and may contain DNA that might help with the demise of the banana around the world. Do you have any other types to cross between? Could end up with something.

Playing with banana genetics sounds kinda fun. The only other seeded banana I"m growing right now is the Musa Ensete Maurelli. I've grown other seeded kinds in the past. It probably won't flower until next spring or summer if I can keep it from dying back too much in the greenhouse this winter. They are slower to flower in my experience than the Musa Velutina.

I might have to try and save and store the pollen in the freezer. The Ensete Maurelli seems to resent the horrid hot summer we've had this year.

I think the Musa Zebrina blood banana also makes seeds and I am growing that one but Ive never had mine flower. They sucker so much from the roots I haven't really cared if they flower and let them die back in the winter frosts.

I just have been feeling really burned out most of this summer. Its been so hot and raining every other day or so, the mosquitoes are terrible and I haven't been gardening much at all. Hopefully the drier weather will return soon and it won't be so miserable and maybe I can weed and see what's left and save some of what hasn't croaked due to my neglect.

Sultry you don't need another seeded banana,since that one produces seeds you just need to know what is a male flower and I female flower so you can cross pollenate by hand.

Thanks glenn. We have so many bees here now that love banana flowers I haven't done any pollinating at all with these lol.

Sultry, let me know when you have some seeds to sell. I'd love to try this one.
