Are these lamps too tall? Also

, thoughts on styling the rest of the nightstand and would these cork lamps look ok on a dark wood nightstand or too much brown?

I think they are too tall and don't complement the fabric headboard. Usually, lamps on nightstands are a little shorter so you can shut them off easily while in bed.

I would go for a color in the lamps. Aesthetics aside, the rule I have heard as far as height is that if you are sitting/laying in bed reading, the bottom of the shade should be at about eye level -- ie, the bulb should not be shining in your face under the shade. Just my 2 cents.

LOVE the lamps and your night stands!

tackykat - I was just thinking the same thing (about where the bulb/shade should be).

Maybe a tad too tall but I really like them. I like your decorating with the two different end tables, the lamp base doesn’t take up a lot of room on the tables so you have room for a book or whatever, I like the neutral colors and if you are going to hang something above the bed, the lamps will be the perfect size, in my opinion.

if you read in bed, lamps need to be tall enough to cast light on your book. so, the questions are 1. do you? and 2. do they?

they arent so much tall as slender. i'd have them knocked over in 45 sec. but thats me.

especially with the tiny nightstand on the left, you might be a good candidate with wall mounted swing arm lamps. either corded or hard wired.

They are a lot better than most night table lamps that are too short to be able to read in bed so keep them and replace that night table on the left in the pic.

Thank you for all the comments. I should have mentioned the nightstand on left is just there until my husband can build the matching nightstand that’s on the right.

Love the lamps and nightstand, will be even better when the left one is in place. Sorry, I do feel the lamps are too tall. They are just towering over the headboard. That's what is throwing it off for me.

If you are using them for reading in bed, as Patricia suggested, then they are not too tall. I have a pharmacy floor lamp on my nightstand so that I can direct the light exactly where I want it to make it easier for me to read in bed. It may look a bit odd (it's 43" high), but it works perfectly for me. It has a cord switch, and so it is easy for me to turn it on and off. If it were on the floor, it would not be functional.

Look very nice and perfect height for reading in bed. Just add a bit of museum putty to the bottoms if they tend to be tippy.

I like them. You could try a shorter harp which would lower the lampshades a bit, but I think they look fine as they are. Love your room.

A more complete picture of the area. The nightstand on left is just there until my husband can build the matching nightstand that’s on the right.
