Do you need the box spring? A high quality mattress on slats or a bunkie board would lower the bed and eliminate the bedskirt.

If you put a cover on the box spring that is the same shade as the bed frame it will visually blend right in and make it seem more like the bed is floating. You could also try some accent pillows in order to draw the eye up and away from the bed base

I always buy a duvet cover (and insert) one size larger than my bed frame, I think it would really help give you the look you want.

A larger duvet and insert could hide the box spring. Full/Queen bed - king duvet and insert. If you are unable to get another in this pattern, you could have fabric added on three sides to cover the boxspring.

I sense a very Egyptian feeling to the style of your bed. I suggest you use very simple tailored Egyptian cotton bedding and then surround the head of the bed with softening drapery. Pick up some rug colors for the drapery and a throw. If you have other rugs, you might try changing that out to go in a new color direction. A new pair of lamps that aren't metal could be a softening touch.

To coordinate with your paint color, not sure of the size needed. You need a comforter/ duvet that drops like this.

Get a low profile boxspring and your bed will be lower with very little expense. The bedding will also easily hide it. One problem solved!

You could just get rid of the bed and get a bed frame. The legs come in different heights now because of the increased height of mattresses.

I love the trim work, wall color and rug.

A compromise might be to keep the headboard and attach it to standard bed rail support.

I agree about the boxspring. My bed was too high as the boxspring was 9". We just purchased a 5" boxspring and what a difference.

The 5" boxspring will lower your mattress...thus, you will be able to cover the boxspring with your existing duvet.

I would change the bedding in ALL white and cover the boxspring with a fitted sheet and with the duvet ..., since the bed is very masculine in appearance you also have to soften the painting behind ...go lighter ..this painting is not working here ...then you need some flowing white drapes and all will look softer ..

you can do better than a fitted sheet on the boxspring... it looks like a sheet. you can wrap the boxspring in anything, including a king size matelasse bedspread... it can look rich and elegant.

(you could even use your current way too small duvet cover)

Interesting room with some interesting details and furniture. I think a number of people have offered solutions to the box spring (although I would do away with it completely). With the black lacquer of the bed and the colour on the walls (and the wardrobe) it feels quite Art Deco in style to me. I would change the rug and change the picture behind the bed. I would add some soft furnishing to the bed - a blanket/throw and scatter cushions to soften the room too! Maybe a rug like this and some cool reproduction prints?

I really like the first picture posted by decoenthusiast. I was thinking all white wedding and a white cover for the box spring. I like the rug, wall color and trim. I don't care for the painting with the heavy, gold frame and the nightstands.

Looks like you have some great problem solving advice, I just wanted to comment on how lovely your room is. I do like the painting over your bed, so if you decide not to use it there, do use it somewhere in your house!

I also agree to get a lower box spring. Amazon will have them in different heights for under $200 and it will get to you in a day or two. They come in a small box and unfold to bed size. It is quite ingenious. This is the one I bought to replace a regular box spring.

I would also say to get a quilt or coverlet and keep the duvet folded in thirds at the bottom of the bed. Layering is key.
